| The 1932 Grove Baseball Team
presented an altogether different line-up from the 1931 champinoship team which qon eleven
games and only lost one. Not only did we lose Herbert Williams because of graduation but
lost Sam Jones, "the old reliable", outfielder because of age limit and Billy
King star hurler of the team, because of an internal injury which will keep him out for
the season. Captain Kenneth "String Bean" Clayton played first base; Sonny
Humphreys, hard hitting outfielder, played center and Kenneth "Red" Daniel, ,
Fiery Red Head, played left. Second base was covered by Don Wending, former Hume Foog
Star. George "Buster" Neese, fullback, was a "Sure Shot" for short
stop. John "Jug Head" Seymore performed the duties on third. The catching was
cared for by Blease "Lucy" McAbee, formerly of Trenton, Bruceton, and all points
South, and Bill Dinwiddie, last years substitute. Lester "Kidd" Neese,
"Carrot Thatched" pitcher from Ensley High, Birmington, and Ralph Caudle, former
American Legion Star, will care for the hurling duties with Walter Lewis and Little John
Barnett for capable understudies. The right field berth went to William "Lefty"
Solomon. Although a hard schedule was faced by this inexperienced team, a good season was enjoyed by Coach Robinson and all the boys. |
