kingluc.jpg (5145 bytes)This is the year that Lucrecia Willis King joins her former coach Gordon Taylor and teammates Nancy Upchurch Farmer and Carolyn Thompson Spurgeon in the Paris-Henry County Sports Hall of Fame.

Buchanan High School advance all the way to the girls' state basketball tournament - not once - but twice in 1959 and 1960.

The Lady Wildcats started King at forward for four years and she put her 5-foot-10-inch frame to good use. She had good speed and could drive to the basket to score.

As a senior, she averaged 18.5 points a game in leading the Lady Wildcats to a 35-3 record and a third-place finish in the state tournament. Not bad for a school with just 82              KING              students enrolled in grades 9-12.

King was named All-Conference three times. She was an honor student in the class room at Buchanan and active in school clubs such as Pep Club, FHA and Glee Club. She was a class officer and a member of the annual staff.

Her parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Chester Willis of Buchanan. She is married to Hughlette King and they have two daughters and three grandchildren.

These days you can find King working as a secretary in the office at Lakewood School.
