That Cherry, she's our gal

Her roots are important to nationally known star

jonesc.jpg (8199 bytes)Of all of Henry County’s “home town boy/girl made good” examples — at least in recent times — none tops Cherry Jones.

Not only is she a famous star of Broadway and national television, but also more than any other local celebrity we can think of, she has firmly maintained her hometown ties. Like Dolly Parton and Sevierville, Cherry Jones and Paris are inseparable.

Her newest honor, a Distinguished Artist Award to be presented by the state government April 14 in Nashville, is an example. She not only will be honored at a fancy ceremony, but also will use the occasion to lobby the state legislature on behalf of the arts.

The biggest single day of her homebody devotion is scheduled April 18, when she’ll star in a mini-marathon of four back-to-back fundraisers here to help the Arts Council, the Heritage Center, the public library, the Lee Academy for the Arts and the Downtown Paris Association.

Name another celebrity who has done so much to nourish roots.
