Atkins-Porter becomes just a memory

| Trackhoe operator Johnny Berry brings down another avalance of brick, mortar and plaster as workers begin to demolish the Atkin-Porter School building early Monday morning. The entire building, except the gymnasium, is expected to be down fairly quickly, but loading and hauling the debris away will take longer, according to a spokesman for the city. The school, abandoned after a roof collapse in the late 1990s, was replaced by Paris Elementary School/Paris Civi Center complex. Now deeded to the city by the Paris Special School District, the property will be made into a part with the gym being used for recreation. |
