Dorothy Glynn Atkins Owen ~ Obituary

Henry County native and former Henry I. Siegel sewing machine operator Dorothy Glynn Atkins Owen, 76, of Dresden died Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.

Locally, she leaves a daughter: Linda (Mitchell) Evans of Cottage Grove; and a brother: George Atkins of Paris.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Jolley Springs Baptist Church, west of Como, where she was a member.

Don McCulley, Tony Michael, Michael Simmons and Jerry Wiggins will officiate. Burial will be in Butler Cemetery near Gleason. Chosen as pallbearers are Johnny Henderson Jr., David Henderson, Clint Lowry, Kerry Warman, Jason, Josh and Ethan Owen and Jacob Barker.
Honorary pallbearers will be Stephen Shopher, Brandon Evans, Britt McClain, Jamie Thompson, Steven Shanklin, James Painter and Jerry Johnson.

Born Oct. 13, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Henry Clay Atkins and Annie Inez Atkins.

At Jolley Springs Church, she was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union and its former director. She was a member of a Family and Community Education club.

She also leaves four other daughters: Patricia (J.C.) Lowry of Gleason, Pamela (Ronnie) Warman of McKenzie, Diania (Louis) Barker of Southaven, Miss., and Cynthia (Steven) Seamans of Chandler, Ariz.; three sons: Tony (Karen) Owen of Salsbury, N.C., Kenneth Owen of Gleason and Bobby (Brenda) Owen of Fulton, Miss.; one other brother: Jerry (Rosie) Atkins of Georgia; 20 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by three sisters: Joy Vowell, Ruby Bell and Ruth Kemp.
