OBITUARY
Paris, Tennessee native Mervyn Norwood, Sr., 76 of
Auburn, Washington went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 21st,
after a long battle with prostrate cancer.
Born August 12, 1935, Mervyn was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and
Sarah Elizabeth Norwood, and Brothers: Lowell, Ted, Wallace and Tommy. He is
survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Martha Hurt and four children;
Merve Norwood, Jr. of Knoxville, Tennessee, Melody Worthen (and Wayne) of
Renton, Washington, Melissa Norwood of Renton Washington and Mary Maulding
(and Phillip) of Lynnwood, Washington. He is also survived by 11
grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Mervyn attended Grove High School in the class of 1954 where he was Captain
of the football team. Upon leaving school he served two years in the army in
El Paso, Texas and later worked for E. I. Dupont in New Johnsonville,
Tennessee.
In 1966 Mervyn entered the ministry and Pastored churches in Mansfield and
Paris, Tennessee; Odell, Oregan and several churches in Washington State. In
1997 his focus in Ministry turned to serving a number of churches as interim
pastor.
Mervyn was such a special man to so many. His legacy is large and his life
touched so many in such a profound way - his kindness, his support, his
affirmation, his encouragement and his words of wisdom.
Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, November 19th at Auburn
Celebration Church in Auburn, Washington, with burial at Tahoma Military
Cemetery.
