| Walter B. Nance The funeral service for Walter Basil Nance of the Hico Community will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home. The Rev. Kevin Brown, Rector of Grace Episcopal Church will officiate. Burial will follow at the Price Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kevin Bomar, Frank Buie, Weldon Gallimore, Bobby Owen, John Smith and Chuck Wilson. Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. today. Mr. Nance died Friday at his home. He was born Dec. 30, 1918. His parents were Herman John Nance and Pearl Edith Price Nance, now both deceased. He was married on June 23, 1945, to Vivian Work, who survives. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Melissa Green, of the home. He entered the U.S. Army in June 1941 and served until August 31, 1945. He earned several citations including the Bronze Star Medal and two Purple Hearts. After he was severely wounded in the Battle of the Bulge, he was discharged to VA Hospital care where he spent eleven consecutive months. Upon his discharge from the Army he located in Palo Pinto County, Texas. For several years he operated a resort area fishing camp on Possum Kingdom Lake. He was also a dealer in Evinrude boats and motors and a rancher. When he returned to the family farm in the Hico Community, he was the 5th generation to farm this land. He belonged to Grace Episcopal Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Masonic Lodge and others. Other survivors include: one sister, Yvonne (Ted) Hitt of Paris Landing; one brother, Dale (Jean) Nance; a niece, Pamela Sparks; and a grand-nephew, Travis Nance Sparks, all of the Hico Community. His lovely daughter, Jeannette Joy Marie Nance Green preceded him in 1973. Walter attended Grove and would have graduated with the Class of 1938.
