| A graveside service for retired school
teacher Opal Wofford Lashlee of Paris was conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday at Oak Hill Cemetery
northwest of Paris. Paul Veazey officiated. Named as pallbearers were Gerald Howard, Charles Rushing, Max and John Paschall, Tom Rushing and W.C. Collins. There was no visitation. Ridgeway Funeral Home was in charge. Lashlee, 100, died Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, at Henry County Medical Center. Born Sept. 14, 1907, in Model, she was a daughter of the late Arch S. and Cordelia Downs Wofford. She was married on Oct. 11, 1935 to Rex Carroll Lashlee, who died March 27, 1979. Lashlee retired from Lee School after more than 42 years as a teacher and supervisor in the Stewart and Henry County school systems. A 1927 graduate of Dover High School, she taught at Fort Henry School. She was a member of the Paris-Henry County Retired Teachers Association. Since 1938 she had been an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an honor society of Key Women Educators, As a member of the society, she was a charter member of two state chapters, Eta in Clarksville and Kappa in Paris. Lashlee graduated with a bachelors degree from Murray State College in 1933. She earned her masters degree from George Peabody College in 1953. She was a member of the Baptist church at Oak Hill Union Church, where according to a family member, she had been active for many years. She was a member of the former Maplewood Garden Club. She leaves one son: Carroll S. Lashlee of Paris; one niece: Janet (Gene) Fields Garvey of Paris; and two cousins: Marjorie McCracken and Regina Whitfield, both of Paris.
