Loren Laverne Brown Hill, 88, of Paris died Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at Saint Thomas Hospital
in Nashville. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at McEvoy Funeral Home. Charles Cate of New Bethel Church of Christ, where she was a member, will officiate. Burial will follow in Bethesda Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday. Born in Henry County on Dec. 14, 1920, she was a daughter of the late William Shade Brown and Annie Vaughn Brown. She was married on May 28, 1943, to John C. Hill, who died March 14, 2000. She and her husband owned and operated John C. Hill Grocery for 42 years. A University of Tennessee at Martin graduate, she taught elementary school in Henry County. At New Bethel Church of Christ, she taught Sunday school for many years. After retiring she worked in Henry County as a volunteer for various community programs. She leaves two sons: Gary (Melanie) Hill of Tampa, Fla., and Reggie Hill of Nashville; a sister: Vola Ree Clendenin of Paris; and a sister-in-law: Lois Brown of Paris. She also was preceded in death by five sisters: Sally Pierce, Eunice Kohn, Lois McClain, Mildred Hughes and Keren Miller; and two brothers: Broughton and Gordon Brown. |
