Diggs, 90, of Nashville died Tuesday, July 7, 2009. His wife of 65 years, Carleen W. Diggs, survives. His funeral, with military honors, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel on Nolensville Road in Nashville. The Rev. Paul R. Purdue will officiate. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cross Mausoleum. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be after noon Friday. Diggs was a member of Hillcrest United Methodist Church and John B. Garrett Masonic Lodge 711, both in Nashville. He retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of the 4th Armoured Division Association and Disabled American Veterans. He also leaves two daughters: Jerelynn Diggs (Bob) Fortney and Rebecca Carleen Diggs; one sister: Nelle Kroll; four grandchildren: Bethany Higgins, Mary Ellen and Emily Fortney and Gregory D. (Amanda) Schlenker; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Hillcrest United Methodist Church, the American Diabetes Association or McKendree Village in Nashville. |
