Robert Adams ('52) of Paris graduated with honors from the Gradwohl School of
Labratory Technique in St. Louis. He would be a laboratory technician in Mayfield. Adams,
a Grove High School graduate had been instrumental in forming a student council at Grove
and was
its first president.
Mrs. Jimmy Vincent, Jr. ('52) and Elizabeth Swinney ('52) honored Amanda Hurdle ('52), bride-elect of Bob Hailey ('52), with a dinner party. An evening of bridge followed dinner. Attending were Anne Nelson ('52), Mrs. Virgil Wall ('45), the honoree and the hostesses.

Diana Diggs ('52) of Paris was chosen to the honorary society Tassel at Memphis
State College. Members were selected on the basis of
service, scholarship and leadership.
Bill Williams ('52) was named outstanding senior boy at Murray State College. A faculty
committee made the choice and Williams also
was named one of the outstanding journalism students.

A dancing chorus of Paris beauties would be a part of an upcoming Elks
minstrel. In the group were Barbara Boyd, Vi Anne Hudson,
Hilda Reese, Clydean Elmore, Jeanene Marcus and Dixie Adams. The chorus would
be under the direction of Frances Maddox.

Three members of theTrades and Industry Club at Grove High School placed first in their divisions at contest in Jackson. Billy Michael won spelling, Bill Hailey in extemporaneous speech and Duane Lacy in Current events.

Honor students were named at Grove High School. On the honor roll were senior Clarice Allen; sophomores Robert Covington, Nancy Matthew's and June Rushing; and freshmen Bobbye Sue Cherry and June Crosser. No juniors were on the list.
A teen rally for the campaign of Estes Kefauver was postponed by a snowstorm, but plans were made for rescheduling the event. Floyd Berry was the advisor for the group and Mitch Warren Jr. was president.

A court of honor highlighted Boy Scout Week in Henry County. The court, at First Christian Church, featured the coveted Eagle award being presented to Billy Williams. Tommy Snow, Bobby Dortch and Don McKinnon received merit badges and Jere Moore was awarded First Class rank.

The annual inter-class contest was held at Grove High School, when students competed in speech performance. Sophomore Robert Covington won in oratorical declamation, senior Diana Diggs took first place in dramatic declamation, and freshman Dan Bundy topped the field in humorous declamation.

An annual Grove High School Thespian banquet was held at the Governor's Room of the Greystone Hotel. Robert Covington entertained with piano music and Tom Minor and Gardner Rhea gave a humorous debate. Diana Diggs was Thespian president.

Mary Beth Morris' English class at Grove High School was given an assignment to write essays concerning some of the history of Henry County. A work by Sarah Nealon was published in the Post Intelligencer. It told of Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest bivouacking on the front lawn of Will Blanton on Dunlap Street before his famous raid on Johnsonville. Blanton was temporary employed by Forrest as a guide to Paris Landing.

The Grove Blue Devils edged a stubborn McKenzie team 13-12 in the season football
opener before 2000 fans. Billy Michael, 120-pound wingback, skipped six yards around left
end for the opening score and Jack Lasater rambled 56 yards off tackle for the
clincher.
And in the same Edition...
A sports page sketch on Grove Blue Devil blocking back Bobby Hailey said the
130-pound senior, "red headed and freckled faced," took the ribbing from his
teammates for his size but was as "hard as a scalybark hickory nut," and refused
to back down from any opponent.

championships at the city courts. Warren outlasted Jack Lasater 6-3, 6-3; while
